Battery Wharf condo

Radiant ceiling panels along the window walls let the owners sit next to the glass in January, with every thermostat hidden in a closet.

The challenge

This condo at Battery Wharf has wide windows over Boston Harbor. In winter, cold glass pulls heat from anyone sitting near it, so a room can feel cold even at 70°F. Forced air and convection heat don’t fix that.

The system

Premier Energy USA designed and installed ThermaRay radiant ceiling panels around the perimeter of the condo, between the metal joists next to the outside walls and windows. Radiant heat warms the surfaces of the glass, walls and floors, which offsets the heat loss at the windows.

The owners didn’t want thermostats on any wall. Each of the five rooms has its thermostat in a closet, with a flush-mount sensor set into the wall near the window casing.

The result

The owners can sit by the windows and enjoy the harbor view all year, with an invisible heating system and invisible controls.
